Back to School

Luke in the middle of learning

Kids enjoy rainbow experiment

Actually we have been back to our studies pretty steady since the middle of July. This year we took another route with our home schooling journey. We decided to try out something totally new and enroll the three boys into a Public Charter School which is based in Oahu and we correspond with through the internet and email. It's been a great change so far. All books are provided for and funds are alloted for each child to participate in extra curricular activities like guitar, piano, or tennis lessons. Each week we are required to submit sample lessons and we are to report to one field trip a month where we see their teachers face to face. You can't beat that! The accountability is great, the field trips and the help with suggestions and books are such a plus and we still get to have school at home! So far so good. Yesterday, we attended our first field trip with the other families who are enrolled. We met with a few of the teachers at the Subaru Telescope Facility in Hilo. What an informative workshop it was. It was kind of long, but the neat experiments in between kept the students attention.

Hi Heather!

I'm glad you are back to school and that everything is going well.

You may already know all about this, so if you do, just ignore me; but, you should know what you're getting into from a Christian perspective. Here's what HSLDA has to say about charter schools:
